Retiro Park Lodge is a unique valley retreat just 15 minutes from Nelson city, New Zealand. This accommodation lodge is set in beautiful gardens with swimming pool and courtyards.

The lodge is set in a park-like 50 acre farm with a boutique vineyard nestled amongst the small olive and almond groves. Discover hidden picnic spots throughout the farm or wander around the trails. If you feel like it you can feed the donkeys, Llamas and Alpacas.

I am just writing to thank you for making our stay, albeit brief, so magical. We have voted Retiro Farm Lodge simply the best out of all our NZ guest houses and are so sorry we did not have the opportunity to spend another night with you. I have just finished reading Winter in Madrid which mentions Retiro Park!


Very best wishes and thank you again - our stay and our evening meal were truly memorable. Hope the alpacas, llamas and 'llamacas' are thriving.

What's Happening at the Farm?

Better late than never summer finally started in February. Our family of Llamas and Alpacas have given birth to four new Crias and all are doing very well. Peggy the minature horse had a foal in November and because he was so small we of course called him Maxi. Two geese have also come to stay and Flavia thinks it's a great improvement.

This year we were able to pick the first grapes but not yet enough to fill many bottles. But next year we should have a small amount of wine for our guests.

I am going to Spain for 5 weeks from the 25th March until the 5th May so Retiro Park Lodge will be closed for that time.

Thank you to all our guest who stayed with us and we hope you enjoyed your visit and had a safe trip home.

Retiro is spanish for "retreat". Named after the beautiful park in the centre of Madrid which was once the Hunting Lodge and private park of the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynisties of Spain.
